EY Skye is a Norwegian IT consulting firm who has introduced a blockchain solution for tracing Salmon. Ernst & Young (EY) is a multinational professional services firm who has acquired EY Skye in the month of November in 2018.
Feedback can be provided. Fish can be rated. A particular batch of Salmon can be recognized. Consumers can come to know the batch of their ordered Salmon through an app of the company. Businesses crucial market information can be provided. Necessary precautions can be taken faster and effectively than ever. Consumers are said to be given more confidence related to Salmon. Norwegian producers are said to be helped in protecting themselves.
A partner at the Norwegian IT consulting firm EY Skye Lars Torp said, “It’s important that Norwegian salmon—and all seafood—be traceable from egg to fish to production to consumers.”
He added, “It’s important to distributors, restaurants, markets, and, of course, customers to be able to trace each fish through a value chain. People won’t buy any more if they feel misled. It’s a big issue. People will eat more fish and be healthier if they know its story.”
The blockchain solution is provided to EY Skye through SAP. This project is created on the Cloud platform of SAP.
Farmed fish is more prone to risk in a farming environment as toxins can enter into the environment. Consumers and businesses can be harmed due to a bad batch. Producers can put down their fishes due to no information about the exact problem. Food, time and money can be wasted together in results. More futuristic components are envisaged. Temperature and proper storage are the factors for governing Salmon and sensors are one of the crucial factors.
20% of fish is estimated to be not labeled properly. Salmon industry in Norway is worth more than $7 billion. 59% of the farmed salmon supply across the world is produced, Ledger Insights reported.
A blockchain solution is also provided to Bumble Bee Tuna through SAP this year only. Bumble Bee Foods is recognized as the largest branded shelf-stable seafood company across North America. Continuing for innovating and improving upon seafood traceability was a purpose behind this collaboration. Customers are facilitated with the complete origin of Tuna. They are not only facilitated with this complete origin, but they are also facilitated with their history.
